NATIONAL FAMILY HEALTH SURVEY-6 (NFHS-6)

About: Nationwide health survey launched in 1992–93 to provide data
for health and family welfare policymaking.
Conducted by: International Institute for Population Sciences
(IIPS), Mumbai.
NFHS-6 (2023–24): Covered 6.79 lakh households across 715
districts using CAPI technology.

Key Findings
Maternal Health: Institutional deliveries increased to 90.6%.
Family Planning: TFR remained at 2.0, with improved contraceptive
use.
Child Health: Better immunisation and reduced stunting (29.3%).
Health Insurance: Coverage increased to 60.2%, largely due to
Ayushman Bharat–PMJAY.
Women’s Empowerment: Higher internet use and bank account
ownership.
Concern: Rising obesity and diabetes despite improvements in other
health indicators.
